The Cooking Chronicles explores the intersection of identity and food. It is part of an ongoing project in which I prepare and photograph iconic Jewish foods commonly found in New York City. The project was initially inspired by a trip to St Petersburg, Russia in the 1990s to reconnect with my father’s family. Though we did not speak the same language, we bonded at the kitchen table over matzo ball soup and established a strong connection. The goal of the project is to explore and expand on Jewish cultural identity as a way to cultivate connection and foster the development of new Jewish culture.
