Covering Series

The Covering Series explores identity by creating new meaning from the Jewish mourning ritual known as Shiva. The project was conceived as a way to contend with personal loss, when the matriarch of my family passed away, by visually addressing the grieving process. The covered forms are intended to evoke ancient aspects of the ritual including the denial of vision by enrobing one's head. A suite of six images from the series is in Harvard’s Fogg Museum collection. Work from this project is included in the book, On Death, a KGP Monolith-Humble Arts Foundation collaboration (2019.) The book is in the collection at The Museum of Modern Art Library.

Images are captured with the landmark Leaf digital camera back. The series includes 24 Vintage Kodak Dye Sublimation Prints, 1993-95, 10”x10”each, Edition of 10 made by the artist.
